    Background Note:
    Cactus crops, particularly cactus pear or prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) is gaining increasing interest across the globe, because of its resilience to the harsh ecological conditions. Cactus cultivation could be a good option for restoration of degraded/waste land in watershed in India projects. Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development. Government of India is contemplating an International Conference with all stakeholders on Cactus Cultivation shortly in India at New Delhi. Theme of Conference would be Fodder use. Bio-gas generation and other uses of Cactus. The overarching goal of the conference is to enhance the technical knowhow of cactus as an alternative drought resilient feed resource, alternative energy supplement and other nutritional use under different agro-ecological production systems across the country and enhance the livelihoods of poor and marginal farmers residing in watershed project areas.
